MAY 15th - end of year SUMMARY

MAY 15th – End of year SUMMARY

It was difficult to decide exactly HOW to present the final studio project.

So much work has been developed over the year & researched in practice-as-research workshop sessions with different groups.

Eventually it was evident that I needed to present a clear account of my pedagogical practice using three main avenues of communication:

1.     Instructions on how to explore each concept / exercise / experiment.

2.     Video, images & text examples of myself & workshop participants executing the work.

3.     Background information in order for the viewer to put the work into context.

After much thought, plus a little trial & error, I settled on creating a Wix website as a format in which to present this years studio work.

The technicalities were a little challenging, especially on “publishing” the site to discover that the final published version is actually slightly different than what one sees as one is editing & previewing the pages…. Suddenly the font becomes considerably smaller & the menu bar expands – so the first couple of millimeters of anything set nice & neatly next to the menu bar becomes obliterated!

- I have attempted to make adjustments. I hope that the content is clear & readable enough!

Performance Anxiety - WEEK 6 FINAL SUMMARY

copied from Performance Anxiety tumblr group site:

Week 6 - Final Summary

THANK YOU SO MUCH to those who contributed to this workshop experiment over the past six weeks. Your responses have been thoughtful & very considerate of the experiment presented - they have been both creative & intelligent - also unique to each individual.
I think that possibly, the format of working in isolation from each other might contribute towards the uniqueness of each individual response. This may not happen the same way in a “real time/space” situation where peer influence on a process is inevitable, at least to a certain extent. (Although this kind of synergy encourages a kind of group offering that would not occur without the combined force of energies.) So it’s interesting to note & appreciate the differences - as this project has included both.

Gwen, thank you for pursuing further the experiments that interested you & bringing them into fuller fruition. I have very much enjoyed witnessing the evolution of combining ideas of installation & camouflage into your own beautiful melding with flora & hope you run with this even further.
I also appreciated your pictorial breakdown of the “Joint Spirals” exercise - it is reminiscent of Muybridge in its representation of sequence of motion in the body - the comparison with the windmills takes that idea to a different level (perhaps another possible future project? comparing in pictorial breakdown similar sequences of motion in both living & inorganic entities.)
And the “Finding The Essence” experiment result was … well - a breath of fresh air!

If anyone has further experiment results they still really want to post - then by all means, please do. However, they may not end up being part of my final project presentation - as I need to get that wrapped up within the next few days………..

I would also LOVE to hear any comments, feedback, ideas & suggestions you have for taking this pedagogy further.
And please let me know what you feel you have learned through participating in this process.

THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE EXPERIMENT!

Performance Anxiety workshop experiment
From performanceanxiety tumblr group site

Summary from week 5
Research POD 6
Action PODS 11 & 12

Week 5 Summary (April 24 - May 1)

Not very much to report for this week. Warren Wilson College had its annual Art Fest last Friday … so all the students were busy with that. Not much activity here on the tumblr site this week either (besides Gwen’s gorgeous images).
So I will go ahead & post the final PODS & see what transpires ….

RESEARCH POD 6

KEY CONTEMPORARY PERFORMANCE ARTISTS

Who is leading the world of Performance Art right now? Who is up-&-coming? Who has been most influential within the last decade? Who have you caught wind of recently & who interests you?

ACTION POD 11

Revisit any of the previous PODS from this workshop series. One you did not get a chance to work on or want to explore more deeply.
Post results as video, images & text. Title: “(Your name)’s Action POD 11 - revisiting Action POD (-) results”

ACTION POD 12

Create your own Environmental Response.

Find a way of exploring an environmental concept we have not covered yet. Present your response as a performance piece or as instructions for others to follow (or both).
Post your results as video, images & text. Title: “(Your name)’s Action POD 12 results”
